Rank in Google. Get cited by AI.

Search now happens in two places: a results page and an answer. We optimise for both. Local rankings for Noosa, Sunshine Coast and Queensland businesses, national rankings where it makes sense, and the structure that helps get your business quoted by ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Copilot and Google's AI Overviews.

The results page is not the only destination any more.

People still search the way they always have. What has changed is where the answer appears. More searches now end in an AI-generated answer instead of a click, so a business can rank well and still go unseen. The fix is to do SEO properly, then add the layer that makes your content easy for a language model to extract, quote and verify.

Here is the part most people get wrong. AI answers are not a separate channel with separate rules. Pages in Google's top 10 are still the largest single source of AI Overview citations. In Ahrefs' 2026 study they supplied 38% of them. Nearly a third came from pages ranking beyond position 100.

So ranking still gets you considered, but it no longer guarantees a place in the answer. Passage structure and mentions on other sites now decide more of who gets quoted. That is the job AEO does once you are in the room.

So we do both, in that order, and we do not sell them separately.

What is the difference between SEO & AEO?

SEO is optimising to rank on a search results page. AEO, answer engine optimisation, is optimising to be the source an AI system quotes when it writes an answer. SEO wins position. AEO wins attribution. They share a foundation, technical health and genuine authority, but they diverge in how content is structured and where credibility signals come from.

Four layers, run together

Search and answer engine work has four layers: the technical base, local search, content built to be quoted, and authority built off-site. We run all four together, because a fast site that nobody mentions stalls, and so does a well-known brand on a site AI crawlers cannot read.

  • 01 Technical foundations

Everything that determines whether a search engine or a language model can read your site at all.

    • Crawl and index audit, fixing what is blocked, duplicated or orphaned
    • Core Web Vitals to a set budget, measured on real user data
    • Structured data: Organization, LocalBusiness, Service, Product, FAQ, Article, Breadcrumb
    • robots.txt configured to allow GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, PerplexityBot, ClaudeBot, Applebot-Extended and Bingbot, plus Google-Extended for Gemini (Google's AI Overviews are read by the standard Googlebot)
    • Server-side rendered content, because most AI crawlers do not execute JavaScript
    • Bing Webmaster Tools submission, which matters more than it used to because Bing's index feeds ChatGPT and Copilot
    • XML sitemaps, canonical tags, redirect hygiene, internal link architecture
    • /llms.txt published as basic hygiene. It is cheap to keep current, but there is no good evidence yet that it earns citations, so we do not sell it as a lever.
  • 02 Local search

For a Sunshine Coast business, this is usually where the money is. National SEO is a long, expensive fight. Local search here usually is not. Look at the local pack for your own category and you will often find it held by businesses with an incomplete Google Business Profile, thin service pages and few recent reviews. That gap can close in a quarter rather than a year.

    • Google Business Profile built out properly: categories, services, attributes, products, service area
    • Weekly GBP posts and photo uploads, because activity is a ranking factor in the local pack
    • Review generation system, asked at the moment of highest satisfaction, and a reply written for every one
    • Citation audit and cleanup across True Local, Yellow Pages, Localsearch, Apple Business Connect, Bing Places and industry directories
    • Location and service-area pages built to be genuinely useful, not spun from a template
    • Local link building through Sunshine Coast Chamber of Commerce, sponsorships, local media and supplier pages

We build local visibility suburb by suburb: Noosa, Maroochydore, Mooloolaba, Buderim, Caloundra, Kawana, Coolum, Nambour and out to the hinterland. Then we extend into Brisbane and the rest of Queensland once the home market is held.

  • 03 Content and answers

Content built to rank and built to be extracted.

    • Keyword and intent research using real Australian search volume, not global estimates
    • A topic map that clusters pages around a subject instead of chasing single keywords
    • Every section opens with a self-contained 30 to 60 word answer
    • Coverage of the seven question types AI systems break queries into: definition, comparison, how-to, use case, objection, related entity, and metric
    • Statistics attached to named primary sources with dates
    • FAQ blocks where buyers actually ask those questions, with FAQPage markup as basic hygiene for Google. We do not present it as a way into ChatGPT.
    • Quarterly content refresh cycle with a visible review date
  • 04 Authority and mentions

The off-site half, which decides whether an AI system trusts you enough to quote you.

    • Digital PR aimed at publications AI systems actually cite
    • Presence on the platforms that appear often in AI answers: Reddit, LinkedIn, YouTube, industry review sites
    • Clutch, DesignRush and category-specific directory profiles completed properly
    • Entity consistency: your business described the same way everywhere, with sameAs links and a Wikidata entry where you qualify, so a language model resolves you to one entity rather than three
    • Link acquisition through genuine relationships and content worth citing, never through purchased placements

Who this suits: Sunshine Coast and Noosa businesses in health and allied health, hospitality and tourism, trades and construction, professional services, beauty and wellness, and online stores.

What we report, and what we do not

Every month you get a one-page report showing the enquiries search produced, the rankings behind them, your local pack visibility and whether AI tools mention your business. Not a forty-slide export from a tool that nobody reads.

We report:

  • Organic sessions and conversions, not just rankings
  • Keyword positions for the terms that produce enquiries
  • Local pack visibility across your service suburbs
  • Citation tracking: which AI systems mention your business, for which prompts, and whether that is moving
  • Calls, forms and bookings attributed to organic search
  • What we did last month and what we are doing next month

We do not report:

  • Impressions in isolation, which can rise while your business gets quieter
  • Domain Authority, which is a third-party estimate and not a Google metric
  • Keyword counts, because two hundred rankings for terms nobody searches is not a result
Example report: a one-page monthly search reportExample data for Inline Physio, September 2026. Organic enquiries 42, up 6. Organic sessions 1,840, up 9 percent. Local pack top 3 at 14 of 25 grid points, up 3. AI citations present in 5 of 12 prompts across 4 engines, up 2. A line chart shows organic enquiries rising from 24 in April to 42 in September. A keyword table lists five terms with positions and changes, an AI citation table shows which of four prompts are cited by ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Mode and Copilot, and two short lists cover what was done and what comes next month.[ EXAMPLE REPORT ]MOONSTRUCKMonthly search reportInline Physio · September 2026Noosa, AUORGANIC ENQUIRIES42calls, forms, bookingsup 6 vs AugustORGANIC SESSIONS1,840up 9% vs AugustLOCAL PACK TOP 314 of 25grid pointsup 3 grid pointsAI CITATIONS5 of 12prompts across 4 enginesup 2 promptsORGANIC ENQUIRIES, LAST 6 MONTHS24Apr27May29Jun33Jul36Aug42SepKEYWORD POSITIONSPOSITIONCHANGEphysio Maroochydore3up 2sports physio Sunshine Coast5up 1physio Mooloolaba4up 3dry needling Buderim2no changephysio near me7up 4AI CITATIONS BY PROMPTChatGPTPerplexityAI ModeCopilotbest physio in Maroochydorephysio that bulk bills Sunshine Coastsports injury physio near Mooloolabawho treats back pain in BuderimFilled dot: cited in the answer. We track whether AI systems mention you

A standard SEO report will not tell you whether ChatGPT recommends your business. We run a monthly prompt set against ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Mode and Copilot, using the questions your customers would actually type. We record whether you appear, where you sit in the answer, and which source the model cited. That gives you a baseline and a trend line instead of a guess.

Example prompt set for a Sunshine Coast physiotherapist
  • best physio in Maroochydoreabsent
  • physiotherapist near Sunshine Coast University Hospitalpresent
  • who treats sports injuries on the Sunshine Coastabsent
  • physio that bulk bills Sunshine Coastabsent

The results are usually confronting the first time. Many businesses find they are absent from every answer while a competitor with a weaker website is cited in all four, usually because that competitor is mentioned on more third-party sites. That is a fixable problem, and it is where we start.

What SEO will and will not do

SEO is slow, it cannot be guaranteed, and it will not fix an offer people do not want. What it does is compound, so the work you pay for early keeps paying later. Here is what to expect before you spend a dollar.

Promise 01
Reality check

Page one in 30 days

It will not work in a month.

Meaningful movement takes three to six months for local search and six to twelve for competitive national terms. Anyone promising faster is either targeting terms nobody searches or doing something that will cost you later.

Promise 02
Reality check

Guaranteed number one

It cannot be guaranteed.

No agency controls Google's index. If a proposal contains a guaranteed position, read the fine print, because the guarantee will be attached to a term with no volume.

Promise 03
Reality check

SEO will fix your sales

It does not fix a bad offer.

SEO puts more people in front of your business. If those people arrive and do not want what you are selling at the price you are selling it, more of them will not help.

Promise 04
Reality check

SEO is a one-off job

It compounds.

The work that is boring in month two is the reason month fourteen looks nothing like month one. The businesses that win at search are the ones that did not stop at month five.

Check your own AI visibility in two minutes

This self-check shows the questions your customers are likely to ask ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google about a business like yours, and how ready your site is to be cited. Enter three details, run the prompts yourself, and tick what you already have in place. Nothing you type leaves this page.

What SEO and AEO cost

SEO with Moonstruck starts at $1,600 per month for local search, or $3,200 per month for combined search and answer engine work. A one-off search audit is $2,500. The prices are published here because you should know the range before you talk to anyone.

Search audit · $2,500, one off

A full technical, content, local and AI-citation audit. You get a written document with a prioritised action list and effort estimates. Yours to keep, or to hand to another agency.

Local search · from $1,600 per month

For businesses competing in the Sunshine Coast and South East Queensland. Technical, Google Business Profile, local content, reviews, citations, monthly reporting. Minimum three months.

Search and answer engines · from $3,200 per month

Local and national SEO plus full AEO: structured data, entity work, content built for extraction, citation tracking, and digital PR. Minimum six months, because this is the timeframe it actually needs.

No lock-in beyond the minimum term. If it is not working, we will tell you before you have to ask.

Search questions we get asked

  • What is answer engine optimisation?

Answer engine optimisation, or AEO, is the practice of structuring a website and its off-site presence so that AI systems such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Copilot cite it when they generate an answer. It involves writing self-contained passages that answer one question completely, making sure AI crawlers can read the site, keeping structured data accurate, and building mentions on third-party sites that AI systems trust.

  • What is the difference between SEO and AEO?

SEO aims to rank a page on a search results list. AEO aims to have that page quoted inside an AI-generated answer. They share the same foundation of technical health, quality content and authority, but differ in structure and signals. SEO is optimised around keywords and backlinks. AEO is optimised around extractable passages, consistent entity details and third-party mentions. Most businesses need both, and SEO comes first, because top-ranking pages are still the largest single source of AI Overview citations.

  • What is the difference between AEO and GEO?

Very little in practice. AEO (answer engine optimisation) and GEO (generative engine optimisation) both describe getting a business cited inside AI-generated answers. GEO is the term used in academic research and by some agencies, and AI SEO is the plain-language version. The work is the same: crawlable pages, self-contained answers, consistent business details and mentions on trusted third-party sites. We use AEO because it names the goal, which is being the answer.

  • How do I get my business cited by ChatGPT?

Four things drive it. Make sure your robots.txt allows GPTBot and OAI-SearchBot, since blocking them keeps your pages out of ChatGPT search. Structure your pages so each section opens with a complete, standalone answer. Build presence on third-party sites, because ChatGPT leans on outside validation. And rank well in Bing, which ChatGPT search draws on. ChatGPT does not search the web for every prompt: in US data it searched on 34.5% of queries, so your wider reputation matters too.

  • Does llms.txt or schema markup get me into ChatGPT?

Not on their own. Schema markup helps search engines and AI systems identify your business, services and location consistently, and FAQPage markup still helps Google read a page. Neither is a proven citation lever. In SE Ranking's study of ChatGPT citations, llms.txt had negligible impact, and pages with FAQ schema averaged slightly fewer citations than pages without it. We publish both as basic hygiene and put the real effort into content and mentions.

  • Do Sunshine Coast customers actually use AI to find local businesses?

Many do, though fewer use it to find local places so far. In YouGov's 2026 Australian survey, 72% of online searchers start at least some searches with an AI assistant, and 36% do so every day. To find a local place, only 4% start with AI, while 36% start with a search engine and 25% with a maps app. So Google search and your Google Business Profile still carry most local discovery, and AI citations are the layer to build on top.

    Source: YouGov, July 2026

  • How much does SEO cost in Australia per month?

It depends on competition and scope. An independent Sunshine Coast cost guide puts most small business retainers at $1,500 to $3,500 per month, single-catchment local work at $800 to $1,500, and competitive sectors at $3,000 to $6,000. Moonstruck's Local search retainer starts at $1,600 per month and Search and answer engines starts at $3,200. A one-off search audit is $2,500.

Source: What's The Damage, checked October 2026

  • Do I need SEO if I already run Google Ads?

Usually, yes, because they do different jobs. Google Ads buys a position for as long as you pay, which makes it useful for launches, quick tests and seasonal peaks. SEO builds positions you keep, and it is what AI answers draw on, because ads are not cited as sources. A sensible pattern is to run ads for immediate demand while SEO builds, then reduce the ad budget once organic enquiries carry more of the load.

  • How long does SEO take to work?

Local SEO usually shows measurable movement in three to four months and meaningful results by month six. National SEO in a competitive category takes six to twelve months. Technical fixes can produce faster improvement, sometimes within weeks, if the site had significant problems. AEO structural changes can show up sooner, sometimes in four to twelve weeks, because AI systems re-crawl and re-evaluate sources often.

  • When should a seasonal or tourism business on the Coast start SEO?

Start three to six months before your peak. Local search needs that long to move, so work that starts in October will mostly pay off after the summer holidays end. For a Noosa or Mooloolaba accommodation or tour business chasing the December and January peak, that means starting by mid-year. The quieter months are also the cheapest time to fix technical issues and write the pages your peak-season customers will search for.

  • How do I rank in Google AI Overviews?

Rank well for the query first, because top-10 pages are still the largest single source of AI Overview citations. In Ahrefs' 2026 study that share was 38%, so most citations came from lower-ranking pages. Then structure the page so the answer appears as a complete passage near the top of a clearly headed section. Keep the content current with a visible review date, make sure it is server-rendered, and build mentions on sites Google already trusts.

    Source: Ahrefs, March 2026

  • How do you prove AEO is working when AI tools don't give analytics?

We measure it three ways. First, a fixed set of prompts run monthly across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Mode and Copilot, recording whether you appear and which source was cited. Second, AI referral sessions in GA4, which show visits arriving from chatgpt.com, perplexity.ai and similar sources. Third, branded search volume in Search Console, which tends to rise when AI answers mention you. None is perfect alone, so we report all three together.

  • Is SEO still worth it now that people use AI to search?

Yes. AI systems draw their answers from the web, and pages that rank well are still the largest single source of what they cite. If you stop doing SEO, you shrink your chance of being in that source pool. What has changed is the measure of success. Fewer searches end in a click: in Pew's US study, 8% of searches with an AI summary led to a result click, against 15% without one. Being the cited source, and being mentioned on other sites, now carries more weight.

Source: Pew Research Center, July 2025

  • Do you do SEO for businesses outside the Sunshine Coast?

Yes. We run local campaigns across South East Queensland including Brisbane, Ipswich, Gold Coast and Toowoomba, and national campaigns for businesses selling Australia wide. Local work benefits from us knowing the market, so we take on more Noosa and Sunshine Coast clients than anywhere else, but the technical and content work is location independent.

  • Can you guarantee first page rankings?

No, and neither can anyone else. Google does not sell or promise positions and its ranking systems change constantly. What we can commit to is the work: a defined scope, monthly reporting on the metrics that matter, and an honest conversation if the strategy is not producing results. If a proposal guarantees rankings, check which terms it guarantees them for.
